A 70-year-old Ghanaian woman has proven that age is nothing but a number after graduating with a Master of Arts degree in Governance, Democracy, Law and Development at the University of the Cape Coast this week.

Speaking to a local reporter, Mrs Christabel Dadzie said that despite her 40-year experience and career in governance and law, she is determined to contribute even more to her country after attaining her second degree.

She said: “I was inspired by the desire to enhance my knowledge on governance and development generally towards advocacy and other interventions for my human rights work.”

Having begun her education in the 1950s, she said she was struck by how little modes of teaching have changed through the decades. For instance, she pointed out the practice of students writing notes verbatim from a lecturer’s dictation.

Mrs Dadzie’s extensive experience includes serving as an Army Major, Captain in the Legal Directorate of the Ghana Army and president of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
