Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala insists that the nine-time champions of Africa are under no pressure to win a record 10th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations title in this year’s edition in Cameroon.
The Arsenal Ladies forward won the African Women’s Footballer of the Year award in 2014 after Nigeria won their ninth AWCON title in Namibia, and she believes that Nigeria are “more like the underdogs” this time around.
“We are currently rebuilding a new team under a new coach and I believe we’re more like the underdogs going into the tournament, which makes us more free to express ourselves on the pitch,” Oshoala told Complete Sports.
“The coach is gradually instilling her ideas on the team and I’m confident we will not disappoint.”
Nigeria are pitted in the Group B alongside Ghana, Kenya and Mali and the competition will kick off November 19 and end December 3..
