A very disturbing footage has emerged showing a man force a baby sparrow to smoke a cigarette.
Victor Avdeev, 18, posted a photo on Facebook showing a flaming match in the little bird’s beak.
Another image showed it with a lit cigarette as he drove with it in the car next to him.
The pictures have sparked a backlash in Russia, where they were posted in the city of Volgograd in the south-western Volgograd Oblast region.
Avdeev also reportedly made a 14-minute video of him abusing the little sparrow which was shared on social media by his friend, Elena Grekova, but later taken down.
Online commentators urged the animal protection agencies and the police to track down and prosecute Avdeev.
A user known as ‘Detka’ said: ‘Releasing something like that on social media is like digging a grave for yourself. And frankly speaking, he deserves to be punished.’
And ‘rokkko_mg’ added: ‘What a moron this guy is, hope he gets punched in prison.’
A spokesman for a local animal protection charity, who saw the video before it was removed, described it as a ‘manifestation of sadism’.
He said volunteers were outraged.
However, local media reports that the teenager could face a fine of up to £1,073 or a year in jail if convicted.
There is no information about where the cruel teenager got hold of the little bird or whether it survived or not.
